Photography and image-based art — black and white editions on Japanese and fine art papers, glass-laminated objects, original paintings, drawings, and video installations, produced in-house at our Zurich studio or by the artists themselves.

The Collection spans unique works and strictly numbered editions, drawn from two distinct sources : a private archive of historical photographic glass plates, and contemporary works produced or presented in collaboration with living artists.

A vinyl sleeve with a round window. Inside, a photograph of one of the first dismountable airships, printed on handmade Swiss paper. The Karo Collection is built on this deliberate contrast — between a format drawn from popular culture and images drawn from a century-old archive.

Each work is 30 × 30 cm, delivered in its sleeve, and printed on papers from Switzerland and Japan without digital retouching: the traces of time on the original plates remain part of the image. Editions range from 90 to 365 copies, making these among the most accessible works in the blackprint edition programme.

The Karo Artist series follows the same format and packaging — in white — but uses handmade artisanal Washi and presents editions developed in collaboration with living artists.

The Karo Museum takes the same subjects to a different scale: 90 × 90 cm, printed on Washi Bamboo and laminated under museum glass. A different object entirely.
